| Steve Bigas Bio
Record producer Steve Bigas who secured a Grammy award as an engineer (Taj Mahal), a Grammy nomination as a guitarist (Ziggy Marley) and a Juno award (Engineer) Base is Bass and previously signed to "Dreamworks" by Robbie Robertson with his band "King Clancy", has created a new record label based out of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
"Porcelain Records" has created an multi-media initiative that is based on a culmination of "deep in trenches", real life industry experience that includes a world-class audio and video production facility. Steve Bigas says "I've been very lucky to be in the right place at the right time and have spent a lot of time in recording studios all over the world working with many of the best people in the business who taught me a lot about how records are and were made". He is a huge proponent of vintage instruments and vintage recording gear and knows that new technology rarely means better. In all his years of recording, like alchemy, he's become more of a perfomance purist and less of a technician. He believes that musicians should learn how to play together and really listen to each other. Bigas says "a song is much bigger than an individual or an ego". The fact that many musicians have lost the fundamental principal of performance is something that he is ready to change through educating his acts and demanding the best from them.
Some of his inspiration and education grew from his experience as an engineer at the famed L.A. club called "The Mint", where he recorded such notable acts as; R.L. Burnside, Royal Crown Revue, B.J. Sharpe, Taj Mahal, Daniel Lanois, Harry Dean Stanton & Buck Cherry to name a few. His work at world-class facilities, such as, "The Record Plant & Abbey Road" and his relationships with top shelf producers that include Daniel Lanois (Bob Dylan, U2, Neil Young, Willie Nelson), Don Smith (Rolling Stones, Tom Petty) & Ross Hogarth (Jewel) are a testament to his dedication and skill level which sets the tone for the birth of Porcelain Records.
